Aufgaben

Working Environment

We offer two postdoc positions at the Faculty of Biology of the LMU Munich in the group of Prof. Korbinian Schneeberger. The faculty is located in the south-west of Munich and benefits from an excellent infrastructure. The research institutes for plant sciences includes large greenhouses, and latest genomic facilities. The newly established group “Bioinformatics for Genetics and Genomics” managed by Prof. Schneeberger will be staffed fully in the end of 2020. The group is focused on the diversity of single genomes and transcriptomes in individual plant organisms and has a strong expertise in computational genetics.

Project Description

Genomic changes are one of the major contributors to phenotypic variation. New technologies allow us to analyze which of the changes and to what degree these changes influence phenotypes and thereby drive evolution. One important genetic tool are the constantly evolving technologies of next generation sequencing allowing to decipher genomic changes at highest resolution and thereby help to bridging the gap between genotypes and phenotypes.

Our group analyzes genomic changes on various different levels, we compare species, populations, artificial crosses and even the genomic differences within individuals. We do this using latest single cell genomic technologies to get insights into the somatic dynamics of genomic changes (including somatic recombination and mutation rates). At the same time, we are using our expertise in bioinformatics to advance technology and methodology by developing computational tools.

Current projects include genetic experiments and the establishment of computational methods for the analysis of multidimensional genome data to study the natural diversity of mutations and recombination.

Anforderungen

Qualifications

We are searching for highly motivated academic applicants with a PhD degree in bioinformatics or molecular biology with experience in computational data analysis. Applicants should have excellent knowledge of next-generation sequencing data analysis and scripting languages (Python, Perl etc.).

Furthermore, interest in state-of-the-art sequencing methods are required. Good oral and writing skills in English are essential. We are particularly looking for an open-minded, creative and critical minded candidate who is also a team player.

We are a multi-disciplinary group including bioinformaticians, biologists and biotechnologists (https://www.mpipz.mpg.de/schneeberger). Our approach to science is curiosity-driven, and is closely aligned to our interest in new technologies. Scientific support comes from a wide range of facilities (genomics, microscopy, high performance computing cluster) and lab technicians. Salaries will be based on previous experience according to TV-L guidelines.

Part-time employment is generally possible. Disabled people with the appropriate qualifications will be considered preferably.

Have we raised your interest? Please submit your curriculum vitae, list of publications, two references and a one-page statement of research interests to Finni Häußler (finni.haeussler@lmu.de). In case of questions regarding the projects, please directly email to Korbinian Schneeberger (schneeberger@mpipz.mpg.de).

Schwerbehinderte Personen werden bei ansonsten im Wesentlichen gleicher Eignung bevorzugt. Die Bewerbung von Frauen wird begrüßt.
