The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in conjunction with the Seton Healthcare Family, is seeking a board certified/board eligible Psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty and serve in the Emergency Behavioral Health Unit at Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas.  We seek a physician who will help our department achieve the goal of working with our community partners to develop clinical, educational and research initiatives that revolutionize how people get and stay mentally healthy in Central Texas and beyond. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty of the Department of Psychiatry through the Texas Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program.

About the Position

We seek candidates who are committed to providing care within a growing community and have a strong record of providing exemplary care and treatment that restores hope, and helps patients live healthier, fuller lives.  A clinical assignment will occur through our department’s collaboration with Seton Healthcare Family, with the physician providing clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team.  Primary responsibilities will include providing world-class medicine and clinical expertise to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders. The successful candidate’s appointment within the department requires regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents.

Position Details – Emergency Department Psychiatrist

• Full-time Psychiatrist specializing in Emergency Psychiatry at the Emergency Behavioral Health Unit
• 12-hour shifts (likely 11 AM – 11 PM), 11 shifts per month
• Serve as a critical first point of contact for patients experiencing acute psychiatric crises in a high-volume emergency department
• Conduct rapid psychiatric evaluations and consultations for ER and medicine admissions after hours and on weekends
• Work closely with emergency medicine teams to stabilize patients and determine appropriate care pathways
• Supervise and train medical students and residents in emergency psychiatry, crisis management, and acute stabilization techniques
• Maintain thorough and timely documentation in accordance with medical and legal standards
• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Psychiatry
• Eligible for faculty appointment at Dell Medical School

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree.
• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain prior to appointment.
• Board certified in psychiatry, or board eligible with a commitment to obtain certification within two years.
• Eligible for credentialing and privileging by Dell Medical School and all assigned clinical partners.
• Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor or higher in the Department of Psychiatry.
• Demonstrated leadership, clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
• Ability to influence/motivate others at all professional and administrative levels.
• Must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence.
• Must possess tenacity, self-motivation and initiative necessary to drive the development and maintenance of established and new programs.
• A track record of being able to lead, direct, and influence a team regardless of reporting lines, as well as be a team player.
