We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA), who can combine cell and computational biology approaches to study how human cells ensure the accurate segregation of chromosomes. The PDRA will explore outer-kinetochore protein regulation and function using Super-resolution and Deconvolution microscopy tools.  The PDRA will work in the Draviam laboratory and interact closely with other cell division and cytoskeletal research groups in the building including the Thorpe, Caudron, Palacios and Subramaniam laboratories.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology or Computational biology fields.  Extensive experience in microscopy and molecular biology techniques are expected. Some experience in computational or biochemistry techniques would be valuable but not essential.  Candidates will be supported to put forward post-doctoral research fellowship applications.

Chromosomal instability (CIN) is a hallmark of cancers and can arise from errors in the process of chromosome-microtubule attachment. However, the precise molecular reasons for CIN remain unclear. This interdisciplinary project will combine cell and molecular biology techniques with either biochemistry or computational tools to study chromosome-microtubule attachments. The candidate will create fluorescent marker cell lines and track biochemical changes at the attachment site to understand how cells distinguish immature versus mature attachments. Identifying how cells distinguish immature versus mature attachments is expected to shed light on CIN preventing mechanisms.

The post is based at the Mile End campus in London. It is a full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment until 30 April 2021, with the possibility of a 7-month extension, subject to approval. The start date is August 2020. The salary will be Grade 4-5, with a salary range of £34,220 - £43,602 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
