Overview:

About the Role

The successful applicant will join the Particle Physics Research Centre (PPRC) neutrino group, currently involved in NOvA and DUNE. On NOvA we are involved in the beam simulation, the near detector analyses, and the NOvA-T2K joint oscillation analysis. Our involvement in DUNE is in ProtoDUNE, the high-pressure  TPC, and the data acquisition system for the near detector.

The successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions to both NOvA and DUNE, especially in the joint NOvA-T2K analysis and DUNE near detector.

About You

You will have completed or be about to complete a PhD in particle physics and have a track record of making leading contributions to an experimental programme. You should be proficient at coding using C++ and/or Python. Desirable experience that may differentiate strong candidates includes having worked on neutrino interactions/oscillation analyses, and working with hardware (particularly LAr technology), experience in project supervision and the use of multivariate methods.

About the School

The successful applicant will join the PPRC to work on the NOvA and DUNE projects under the direction of the project PI, Dr Linda Cremonesi. The Centre consists of 9 academics, 10 PDRAs, 18 PhD students, and is supported by a strong research engineering and technical team of 4 people. In addition to our neutrino activities, we have a strong involvement in LHC physics via the ATLAS and MoEDAL experiments.  The Centre has a strong team of detector development experts focusing on diamond, silicon and organic semiconductor radiation detector development. The Centre operates one of the UK’s Tier 2 GridPP computing facilities.
