Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine/Preventive Neurology Unit

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Medical Statistics QMUL24595

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive statistician to join the Preventive Neurology Unit (PNU), which has been set up with the aim of understanding the determinants of neurological disease and developing intervention studies. Our work focuses on Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and dementia.

About You

Candidates must have a good degree (First or Upper Second) and a PhD or equivalent experience in medical statistics or a related quantitative field. Relevant experience in this field is essential, as is experience of using statistical analysis tools (e.g., STATA, R). The ideal candidate will also have experience of analysing genetic data and developing statistical analysis plans for prospective datasets. The post-holder will be expected to work across all three disease areas, so excellent time management skills and a flexible approach are crucial.

About the Unit

The Preventive Neurology Unit (PNU) is part of the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine, which has a focus on academic discipline, research, the translation of research into public health strategies and their practical implementation – all dedicated to the reduction of disease and disability.

About Queen Mary

Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum, a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance, including flexible working arrangements.

The post is a full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 2 years. Starting salary will be in the range of £34,220 - £37,076 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and staff pension scheme.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Jonathan Bestwick at j.bestwick@qmul.ac.uk.
