About the Role

The successful candidate will investigate how oxidants serve as signals to control the functions of the healthy cardiovascular system and whether such events are altered during disease to mediate dysfunction. The role involves translational studies aimed at pharmacologically harnessing the oxidant activation of Protein Kinase G for therapeutic purposes, but additional related project opportunities will be possible.

Hands-on experience of cardiovascular-relevant murine disease models such as diabetes and hypertension are essential, as are molecular genetic skills and analytical assays for reactive oxidant species by HPLC and others that can index the redox state of cells and tissues.

About You

The successful candidate requires a PhD degree in a biological, medical or chemical sciences discipline and a few years post-doctoral experience, with a good track record in publishing their work.

The position will be based at the Heart Centre, William Harvey Research Institute in Charterhouse Square. The successful candidate will join the laboratory of Professor of Cardiovascular Biochemistry whom, heads a group studying the molecular basis of redox sensing and signaling in the cardiovascular system.

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 2 years, with an expected start date of June 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £34,220 - £40,194 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
