About This Opportunity 

As the Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will join the laboratory of Professor Bruno van Swinderen  to investigate a hypothesized sleep function centred on optimising attention, by measuring prediction error signals in the brain. You will work with Professor van Swinderen to intellectually drive this compelling hypothesis: a key function of sleep is to balance prediction and surprise. In addition, you will focus your efforts on developing your expertise and emerging research profile in your discipline. At this level the incumbent will be supported and guided by more senior academic staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre.

Our Ideal Candidate

Boasting experience with coding in Matlab, Python, or R, you will hold a PhD in neuroscience, computer science, data science or relevant related fields. A strong desire to conduct meaningful research, aimed towards making high-impact findings and publications along with expertise and a strong track record in computational science, image analysis, or mathematical modelling of complex systems is essential. Your excellent communications, interpersonal and organisational skills will help you excel in this role.

Working knowledge of Drosophila melanogaster research techniques and experience with use of High Performance Computing environments would be highly regarded.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for up to 12 months at Academic level A.

For Level A: The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,449.07 - $94,637.91 per annum, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $82,753.80 - $110,726.35 per annum.
