The Position

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will be working on the ARC Discovery Grant project entitled, “Estimation and Control of Noisy Riemannian Systems”. The research will focus on developing, analyzing and programming algorithms and carrying out computational studies in system identification and control for stochastic processes evolving in Riemannian manifolds.

This position will develop research skills and includes contributing to the writing of engineering papers for submission to international journals and refereed conferences, and presentation at international conferences. There will also be the opportunity to assist in the supervision of PhD and honours students working on the project.

The role of Postdoctoral Research Fellow reports to Professor Victor Solo and has no direct reports.

  • Level A, Salary - $99,325 to 106,237 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time
  • Fixed-term contract – one year with the possibility of extension for a second year.
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Skills & Experience:

  • A PhD (or soon to be awarded) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline such as Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Statistics. The PhD should have a specialisation in: optimisation or control or reinforcement learning, system identification or statistical signal processing.
  • Knowledge of: C programming, Linux, Matlab, R, Python.
  • Knowledge of: Stochastic Processes, Mathematical Statistics, Differential Geometry.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective research relationships.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
