The Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) is a multidisciplinary research Centre committed to world-class research across the environment health sciences. These include environmental toxicology, epidemiology, microbiology, health risk assessment and communication, and state-of-the art monitoring and analytical technologies to quantify emerging environmental health risks.

QAEHS is funded by Queensland Health and The University of Queensland and works closely with Queensland Health to develop its research directions. The Centre pursues research excellence through competitively funded research, as well as government and industry consultancies, and has a successful track record in interdisciplinary collaborative research with international and other Australian institutions.

About This Opportunity

We are excited to have two positions available, one to work with Professor Kevin Thomas, the other with Dr Sarit Kaserzon - however each position will work with both Prof Thomas and Dr Kaserzon in close collaboration. You will conduct independent research within the field of environmental analytical chemistry. A major objective for this project will be to establish analytical approaches for target and suspect analytes in human biomonitoring and environmental samples using high-resolution mass spectrometry. You will develop sensitive methods with excellent quality control, be able to interpret high-resolution mass spectrometry data, conduct MS/MS experiments, and quantify or semi-quantify analytes in complex samples.

This position is located at the QAEHS Centre at Woolloongabba, adjacent to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will hold a PhD in environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, toxicology, or other related area, with experience in the research context. Your strong mass spectrometry skills will allow you to develop target and non-target analytical methods for organic contaminants in environmental samples. You will hold extensive demonstrated experience with operating and troubleshooting LC-MSMS, GC-MSMS, GC-HRMS and/or LC-HRMS instruments. Moreover, your excellent laboratory skills will include experience with extraction and purification techniques for a range of organic contaminants in biotic and abiotic matrices and demonstrated experience with different sampling techniques for organic pollutants. Finally, you will hold the ability to perform in-depth and critical data analyses and, where relevant, data modelling.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 3 years at Academic Research level A.

The base salary will be in the range $83,672 - $92,782, plus super of up to 17%. The total package will be in the range $97,844 - $108,555.
