Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Evolutionary Genomics

University of Queensland

Australia

The School of Biological Sciences

The School of Biological Sciences at the University of Queensland is one of the largest most productive Biology Departments in Australia with strengths in ecology, evolution, genetics, and conservation biology.  Information about the School may be accessed: http://www.biology.uq.edu.au/.

This position is associated with Prof. Steve Chenoweth’s research group, which has a strong focus on understanding how sexual reproduction influences the evolution of complex traits, using Drosophila serrata as a genomic model.

The role

The successful applicant will conduct research into how gene expression evolves in males and females. The core project involves analyses of cis- and trans- regulatory variation using F1 hybrid RNA-Seq data from multiple resequenced lines of Drosophila serrata sourced from both nature and also a mutation accumulation experiment. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute substantially to the project through data analysis and writing papers. There are also opportunities within the position for the successful candidate to develop their own independent research projects.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD qualification in evolutionary biology, quantitative genetics, population genetics, or genomics. Applicants will be required to have a strong background in the bioinformatic analysis of genomic datasets, excellent communication and analytic skills, and strong interpersonal skills. They should demonstrate strong organisational skills and an ability to work independently to meet collaborative project goals.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion and actively encourages applications from those who bring diversity to the University.
