About This Opportunity

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow opportunity to join Neuropeptide Research Group led by A/Prof. Markus Muttenthaler the successful appointee will gain highly regarded exposure in; 
  • exploration of Nature's biodiversity to develop molecular probes and discover novel therapeutic leads with applications in pain, cancer, memory, autism and gastrointestinal disorders. In particular 
    • Design and synthesis of peptides, molecular probes and organic building blocks
    • Structure-activity relationship studies of molecular probes and therapeutic leads


Our Ideal Candidate

  • will have obtained a PhD in the discipline area of Synthetic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Pharmacology or Biochemistry
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct meaningful research in the discipline areas:
    • peptide synthesis and characterisation
    • structure-activity relationship studies
    • molecular biology and pharmacology
  • Experience in the research areas below is desirable:
    refer to the position description for the full selection criteria 
    • venom peptide drug discovery
    • medicinal chemistry and peptide drug development
    • GPCR or ion channel pharmacology (IP-1, cAMP, FLIPR)
    • peptide structure determination by NMR
    • phage display


What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, 12 month fixed term position at Academic Research Level A with potential for extension.The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range from $67,452.89 to $90,982.26 p.a pending qualification and experience plus super. contributions of 17% (the total FTE package will be from $79,025.18 to  $106,449.24)You will be able to take advantage of UQ Sport Facilities, salary sacrificing options, on-campus childcare, discounted private health insurance, cheap parking, development programs and many other benefits.For further information, please review The University of Queensland's Enterprise Bargaining Agreement 2018-2021.
