About This Opportunity

An opportunity exists to work with DECRA Fellow Dr Alexander Puckett and Professor Ross Cunnington, along with Professor Markus Barth (School of ITEE), as part of an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project. The project will use ultra-high field (7T) MRI to non-invasively measure various aspects of brain structure and function with the aim of linking these high-resolution measurements with the participant’s subjective perceptual experience. Although far from simple, this inquiry is no longer intractable. With recent advances in neuroimaging and psychophysical methods, as well as the development of data analysis techniques capable of uniting the two, it is now possible to begin unravelling these complexities.

Your contribution to this project will be to lead research using 7 Tesla MRI, rigours psychophysics, and computational modeling to study human somatosensory cortex.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will hold (or be nearing completion of) a PhD in neuroscience, or closely related field. This will be partnered with research experience in conducting research with MRI, psychophysics, and/or computational modelling. Moreover, you will hold technical/programming skills to develop experimental paradigms and conduct analyses - and preferably you will already hold experience with one or more of the following: Matlab, Python, AFNI/SUMA, or FreeSufer. Finally, you will be have evidence of publications in reputed referred journals, well developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to quickly problem solve changes.

We value diversity and inclusion, and actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity to the University. Our Diversity and Inclusion webpage contains further information if you require additional support. Accessibility requirements and/or adjustments can be directed to
