Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Systems Neuroscience

University of Oxford

United Kingdom

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist to join a team working with Dr Armin Lak on a research programme studying neuronal circuit mechanisms that underlie learning and decision-making. Our approach is to employ state-of-the-art circuit tools, including high-count electrophysiology, calcium imaging and optogenetics, in combination with highly-controlled behavioural tasks in mice, and computational modelling. Our goal is to gain a quantitative circuit-level understanding of neuronal mechanisms that subserve learning and decision-making.

We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher to join our newly-established lab. You will work on projects investigating the neuronal circuits underling reward learning and decision making under uncertainty. The post will include a diverse set of activities including behavioural training in mice, large-scale recordings, circuit manipulations, and computational data analysis. You will be also involved in our effort in developing hardware and software for novel behavioural tasks and neural measurement tools. You will work collaboratively with colleagues in the lab, as well as several labs in the department, and in the Oxford Neuroscience. You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities, test hypotheses and analyse scientific data and develop ideas for generating research income. You will also represent the research group at external meetings and collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports.

The successful candidate should hold, or be near to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in neuroscience or a relevant field, and have a track record of publication or completed projects. Previous experience with either electrophysiological, imaging or optogenetic tools and neurophysiological data analysis are required. Prior work in computational modelling and experience with hardware and software development for neuroscience are highly desirable.

You will be based in the Sherrington Building, Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT.

The position is funded by Wellcome Trust for 2 years, until 31 July 2021 in the first instance.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 20 May 2019. Interviews are likely to be held the week beginning 27 May 2019.
