Postdoctoral Researcher in Biological Sciences

University College Cork

Ireland

Post-Doctoral Researcher, APC Microbiome Ireland

12 Months, Fixed-term, Whole-time Post

Position summary

As evidenced by a growing body of literature, the gut microbiome plays an important role in inflammatory bowel diseases. However, the large microbiome datasets collected from patients with these multifactorial and heterogenous diseases require innovative study designs and state-of-the methodology, including next-generation sequencing, metagenomics, multivariate statistics and machine learning. Our lab has accumulated several large published and unpublished microbiome datasets from various body sites, including longitudinally collected samples. The successful candidate will disentangle relevant microbe-disease associations and predict relapse-predicting microbial profiles.

The appointee will be part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and will work in the School of Microbiology, Teagasc and the APC Microbiome Ireland, with frequent meetings with international and industry partners. A collaborative, analytical and methodological mindset is therefore essential.

UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.

Post Duration: 12 months

Salary: €39,522 - €45,609 p.a. (IUA PD1 Salary Scale)
