We are looking for

You will work on two new and challenging application-oriented projects with significant societal impact: 1. Homed, in which a standard Kaldi speech recogniser for Dutch will be adapted to be used in intramural medical and patient-oriented environments. It will play an important role in documenting patients' views on medicine use and well-being. 2. ST.CART: a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) speech technology project with two components: one component supports children learning to read and the other helps identify cognitive decline in the elderly.

We ask

  • A PhD in engineering, computer science, machine learning, signal processing, computational linguistics or any other relevant discipline.
  • Experience with automatic speech recognition and spoken dialogue systems.
  • Advanced experience with the Kaldi speech recognition environment, language models, acoustic models, scoring and rescoring.
  • Fluent command of the Python scripting language.
  • Experience with Unix work environments.
  • A teamplayer mentality.
  • An excellent publication record.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferably a good command of Dutch.

The Faculty of Arts consists of ten departments in the areas of Language and Culture, History, History of arts, Linguistics, and Communication and Information Studies, which together cater for about 2,400 students and collaborate closely in teaching and research. Research at the Faculty of Arts is embedded in two research institutes: the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH) and the Centre for Language Studies (CLS). You will be hosted at the Centre of Language and Speech Technology (CLST), which is part of CLS. You will work in a team-driven environment. We offer

  • Employment: 40 hours per week.
  • A maximum gross monthly salary of € 5,127 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11).
  • The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: Temporary for 3 years.
  • The intended start date is 1 December 2020.
