The Department of Geosciences and Geography ( at the Faculty of Science is the leading research and education unit in its field in Finland. In addition to research in geology, geophysics and geography, research into seismology and official duties in the field of seismology is carried out at the department. The Geochemistry group in the Department of Geosciences and Geography at the Faculty of Science of the University of Helsinki, situated on the Kumpula Science Campus, is seeking applicants for a two-year fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher position in Igneous Geochemistry starting in January 2020. A six-month trial period will be applied.

The successful applicant is expected to conduct research in high-temperature, igneous geochemistry facilitating and expanding the current in-situ analytical facilities available in the Geochemistry group at the University of Helsinki. Expertise in Laser Ablation ICP-MS of minerals, glass and/or fluid inclusions is strongly desired. To be successful in the position, the candidate is encouraged to establish a strong network of international collaboration and demonstrate the ability to conduct fundamental research on an internationally high level. In addition, the appointee must take advantage of national and international research funding opportunities.

The starting salary of the postdoctoral candidate will be ca. 3300–3700 euros/month, depending on the appointees’ qualifications and experience.
