Description

The Energy and Environment Transitions (ENVENT) Lab in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for the position of postdoctoral scholar for the academic year 2020-2021.

The Postdoctoral Scholar appointment is a full-time position of advanced academic preparation and research training under the mentorship of faculty members Leah Stokes and Matto Mildenberger. The postdoctoral scholar will work to advance scholarship on political behavior, public opinion, and environmental politics by participating in ongoing research on the electoral ramifications of climate and energy policy in the United States and Canada. The scholar will also advance their individual research and publication agenda on topics in political science, and work with UCSB-based scholars on projects related to the political economy of the environment, and political behavior. Duties include focused work on existing lab research projects related to climate and energy politics, spearheading the design, execution, and writing of research related to elections, political behavior and the environment, and active participation in ENVENT lab.

Basic Qualifications: To apply for this position applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) except the dissertation in political science or a related discipline granted from an accredited university within the last five academic years at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications: Ph.D. conferred by the anticipated appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications: We seek applicants with strong quantitative analytical skills, previous experience working with public opinion data, and familiarity with spatial analysis. Applicants with a record of working on environmental politics or with a substantive interest in developing a research agenda on environmental politics are preferred. Demonstrated experience in low-carbon economy policy or political economy issues in Canada is also an asset.
