About the Research Group
The research group ELCAT in the Faculty of Applied Engineering is looking for a full-time (100%) postdoctoral scholarship holder in the field of redox flow batteries.
More specifically, you will actively work within the framework of the European research project RECHARGE. RECHARGE is a European Research Council (ERC) research grant acquired by Prof. Jonas Hereijgers and entails cutting-edge research. The aim of RECHARGE is to develop the next generation of redox flow batteries.
Within the ELCAT research group you will find yourself in an excellent research environment consisting of more than 50 researchers and equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and research equipment. The scope of ELCAT is situated in the field of electrochemistry and electrochemical engineering. Its scientific activities are related to the development of state-of-the-art electrochemical reactors and batteries, striving towards a green and sustainable industry and society.
Position
- Carry out high-quality scientific research in the field of redox flow batteries.
- Develop and test 3D electrodes.
- Study the effect of hydrodynamics, shunt currents and dynamic flow regimes in redox flow batteries.
- Design, develop, stack and scale up redox flow batteries.
- Conduct research on these topics, assist in supervising ongoing research projects and guide the team of PhD students working within this field.
- Report research results and produce academic publications.
- Assist in overseeing and maintaining the redox flow battery laboratory.
- Assist in supervising PhD students and other team members.
- Assist in ongoing research projects and research group activities.
- Develop new research projects and compete for externally funded research grants, contributing to attracting national and international research funding.
- Participate in academic service activities and represent the research group internally and externally.
Profile
- Hold a PhD in Engineering, (Electro)Chemical Engineering, Applied Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
- Have relevant international experience in redox flow batteries and expertise in electrochemical engineering.
- Have strong experience in experimental research on redox flow batteries and electrochemistry.
- Experience in scaling up and stacking redox flow batteries is an added advantage.
- Speak and write English fluently, preferably at C1 level.
- Demonstrate research qualities consistent with the faculty and university research policies.
- Demonstrate teaching competences consistent with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
- Work with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- Be able to work independently and achieve objectives with a high degree of autonomy.
- Present excellent academic and research achievements.
- Have knowledge of national and international research funding.
- Experience in writing research proposals is considered an asset.
- Experience supervising PhD and/or Master's students is an added advantage.
- Recommendation letters are highly recommended and considered an added value.
What We Offer
- A full-time appointment as a postdoctoral scholarship holder for one year.
- Following a positive evaluation, the appointment may be renewed for a total duration of three years.
- Planned start date: As soon as possible.
- Monthly scholarship according to the salary scales for postdoctoral scholarship holders within the contract research staff system (Bijzonder Academisch Personeel – BAP).
- Work primarily at Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating research environment.
- Access to an internationally recognized research group with state-of-the-art facilities.
