Postdoctorial positions in mathematics at Department of Mathematical Sciences


The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is seeking top early-career researchers for a number of attractive one to three year postdoctoral positions. The application deadline is November 15, midnight local time, 2019 and starting date in 2020, ordinarily September 1 or October 1.


The teaching load is typically two quarter (half-semester) courses per year of which one usually is as a teaching assistant.


The Department of Mathematical Sciences has strong research groups in many areas of mathematics, and has an active postdoc and visitors' programme; we refer to our homepage for more information.


Applicants hired via this call will be affiliated with one of the two sections in pure mathematics: Geometric Analysis and Mathematical Physics and Topology, Functional Analysis and Algebra. Strong applicants in all areas covered by the topics of these sections will be considered. In particular there will be postdoc stipends in the following specific areas/centers of the department:

  • Algebra, topology, operator algebra, and non-commutative geometry as covered by the Centre for Symmetry and Deformation.

  • Geometric analysis: Riemannian geometry, PDEs and curvature flows. For more information, please contact Assistant Profesor Niels Martin Møller.

  • The VILLUM Center of excellence for the Mathematics of Quantum Theory (QMATH) focusing on mathematical physics and quantum information theory. The center offers the possibility to work in close collaboration with theoretical and experimental activities at the Niels Bohr Institute.   • There are also some postdoc stipends available which are not attached to any of the above mentioned centers/grants.


Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.


Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.


The starting salary is currently up to DKK 430.569 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 73.627). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

An assessment committee will be appointed to evaluate the applications. The final selection of a successful candidate will be made by the Head of Department, based on the recommendations of the assessment committee. We expect to send invitations for interviews in December 2019 or January 2020. The interviews will typically take place in January and February of 2020, and our search is expected to be concluded around April, 2020.
