Profile and experience

  • Experience:
    • Relevant master's degree or doctorate in tourism, marketing, human sciences etc.
    • You have excellent knowledge and experience in research on innovation in the culture, heritage and leisure sector (incoming tourism).
    • You master qualitative and / or quantitative research methods, and you know how to implement and implement them correctly.
    • You understand the dynamic and complex reality of tourism organizations and companies. You can capture the demands and needs of the professional field in terms of innovation and challenges and initiate collaboration on that basis.
    • You are able to combine academic knowledge with practical knowledge and insights.
    • You may be willing to teach in the courses
  • Analytical ability: You are successful in recognizing and solving problems. You can analyze a question, make connections and draw logical conclusions.

Content of the assignment  

In the 'innovative tourism' research spearhead we create new insights and (validated) methodologies to support companies and (government) organizations in the culture, heritage and leisure sector to respond to new challenges or trends. The spearhead is inter alia linked to the business training courses of Thomas More Mechelen-Antwerp. We analyze (new) opportunities or challenges based on practice-oriented research. We combine business insights with insights into (digital) trends and developments, customers or employees and knowledge about innovation or change processes in order to develop and implement new solutions.

Do you have research experience and do you have knowledge about innovation in incoming tourism and recreation? Then maybe you are the right person to join our team. Starting from questions and challenges from practice and from scientific knowledge, you participate in exciting research projects with which we want to achieve an impact for the sector. You will end up in a dynamic learning and working environment where you will have the opportunity to participate in innovations every day, where you can develop your knowledge and skills and share them with colleagues, students and companies and organizations.

Your Duties:

  • You do practice-oriented scientific research into tourism innovation. For this you work together with other researchers, experts, partners from the professional field and with the training of Thomas More.
  • You keep your finger on the pulse of social, technological and economic challenges or trends that can offer opportunities or challenges for tourism and / or recreation management.
  • You disseminate results and you translate them into usable applications or strategic advice for companies / organizations and our training courses. You provide assistance in services.
  • You explore the possibilities of grant applications and you prepare project proposals for new research and innovation projects.
  • You are an enthusiastic ambassador of Thomas More and you expand the network of contacts of the research group.
  • You want to achieve top quality and build with the team on the growth of the research group.
  • You work together with students and teachers from the programs and thus contribute to state-of-the-art education at Thomas More.
