The Department of Accountancy and Finance in the Faculty of Business and Economics has the following full-time vacancy:
Professor in the field of Accounting


Position

You will contribute to the University of Antwerp’s three core tasks: education, research and services.


Education

  • You provide high-quality education in the Accounting domain.

  • Your teaching role evolves along with the study programmes and language certificates obtained (see also below – Profile – for further details). The courses you teach may include courses in the broad field of Accounting in the Bachelor and Master programs of the Faculty of Business and Economics, as well as courses in the Antwerp Management School and/or other faculties of the University of Antwerp. The assigned courses may have to be taught in Dutch and English.

  • You play a role in developing activating, student-centred and competence-driven programme components and study programmes.

  • You supervise students and their Master dissertations.


Research

  • You initiate high-quality scientific research in the Accounting domain and are open to collaboration with other members of the department.

  • You initiate new lines of research and work out project proposals to acquire (inter)national research funding.

  • You coordinate the progress of your research projects.

  • You publish in leading peer-reviewed academic journals in the Accounting domain.

  • You develop and maintain an international scientific network.

  • You supervise Master and PhD students.


Services

  • You play a role in the provision of academic services within the Faculty of Business and Economics, the University of Antwerp and the broader society. Examples include participation in student recruitment, boards and committees, and so on.

  • As you progress, you gradually take on coordinating responsibilities in the areas of education, research and/or service provision and you contribute to the department, faculty and university policies.

  • Your leadership style is motivating and coaching. You are attentive to employees’ growth and development processes.


Profile

  • You hold a PhD in applied economics, economics, accountancy or an equivalent domain.

  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.

  • You have established an excellent research portfolio including publications in leading peer-reviewed academic journals.

  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. You are motivated to develop your teaching skills further through the professionalisation opportunities available.

  • If you do not master Dutch, the administrative language of the university, you should be willing to obtain a CEFR B2 level of proficiency in Dutch. The University of Antwerp supports international staff members through an integration trajectory and offers tailor-made language coaching in compliance with Flanders’ statutory language regulations.

  • As soon as you take on teaching duties as a course unit coordinator (English or Dutch), you should be able to demonstrate a CEFR C1 level of proficiency in the language of instruction.

  • You demonstrate leadership potential and organisational skills.

  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.


What we offer

  • We offer a full-time appointment as a member of the Senior Academic Staff (Dutch: Zelfstandig Academisch Personeel, ZAP). The level of your appointment (assistant professor, associate professor, professor or full professor) is determined on the basis of your professional experience and academic qualifications. Junior ZAP members are usually offered temporary appointment as a tenure track assistant professor for five years, which is then followed by permanent appointment as an associate professor.

  • Appointment as an associate professor or higher leads to permanent appointment (tenure) after a maximum of three years. A favourable performance appraisal is always required for permanent appointment.

  • Following a positive evaluation of a PhD project you develop, we offer an attractive starter package consisting of a fully-funded four-year PhD project and €15,000 in operational funds to boost your research from the start of your employment at the University of Antwerp.

  • Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scales for Senior Academic Staff.

  • You receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.

  • The planned start date is September 15, 2026.

  • You do most of your work at City Campus - Prinsstraat 13, 2000 Antwerp - in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
