The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for multiple 12-month, non-tenure track, full-time equivalency (FTE), Professor of Practice (working title Research Engineer) in the Florida Applied Research in Engineering (FLARE) Center.  The intent is for the positions to be a full-time 1.00 FTE; however, consideration may be given for a reduced FTE (minimum of .75) under agreed circumstances with hiring authority.

FLARE is a new arm of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering focusing on proprietary, applied and classified (PAC) research.  FLARE will combine the College’s immense wealth of faculty and student talent with a core leadership team of industry experienced researchers to change the PAC research paradigm.

FLARE is hiring research engineers to provide overall leadership of strategy, engineering, and research development activities in one or more of the following focus areas: (1) technology protection (e.g., tamper detection, anti-reverse engineering, intellectual property [IP] protection), (2) cyber resilient systems (e.g., inherent and predictive security, fault tolerance), and (3) trusted authenticity / supply chain assurance (e.g., lifecycle veracity, novel encryption, identity management). A Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in one or more of the focus area disciplines and with  10+ years of defense industry experience in research capture, management, and execution is required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in focus areas successfully shaping, winning, and executing new business in excess of $1 million annually at the following research levels: Applied Research, Advanced Technology Development, Demonstration and Validation, Engineering and Manufacturing Development, Research, Development, Test, & Evaluation (RDT&E) Management Support, and Operational System Development and demonstrated experience across business development life cycle (e.g., price-to-win strategy development, color team reviews).
