Position Overview

The David A. Dunlap Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream Professor in Extragalactic Astronomy, with a focus on multi-wavelength studies of dust-obscured galaxies and AGN using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Candidates should have an established international reputation and a record of excellence in research and teaching that complements departmental strengths.

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead innovative and independent research programs.

  • Secure and manage externally funded research.

  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

  • Contribute to university service and departmental initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated record of high-impact research and leadership in extragalactic astronomy.

  • Strong teaching record and/or potential, with evidence of ability to mentor a diverse student body.

  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and service.

Evidence of excellence may include: publications in top-tier journals, research awards, presentations at international conferences, and strong referee letters.


Research and Facilities

Candidates will benefit from proximity to:

  • Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics – world-class research, instrumentation, and public engagement.

  • Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics – national institute for theoretical research.

Access to observational facilities includes JWST, CHIME, CHORD, Gemini, CFHT, SDSS-V, and MWA.
