Tenure Track Professor (W1) of Consumer Behavior in the Bioeconomy

Tenure Track Professorship funded by the joint program of German federal and state governments for the promotion of early career researchers

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences invites applications for the position of a

Tenure Track Professor (W1) of Consumer Behavior in the Bioeconomy

at the Institute of Agricultural Policy and Agricultural Markets to be filled by 1 October 2020. The professorship is funded by the joint program of German federal and state governments for the promotion of early career researchers. This is a grade W1-professorship for which recruitment payments can be offered.

The successful candidate will represent the subject in research and teaching. The professorship’s focus is on people as consumers in their acquisition, use, and consumption of goods and services in the bioeconomy, with special consideration given to social change processes such as increasing digitalization or sufficiency ideals. Based on a selection of economic or social science theories and concepts, important elements (e.g. attitudes, social norms) for consumer behavior in the bioeconomy will be mapped and statements on relevant behavioral processes on an individual and societal level will be made.

Excellent knowledge of quantitative empirical research methods from both the economic and the social sciences is assumed; an extension of the method spectrum to include qualitative approaches or the ability to integrate them is particularly welcomed.

The successful candidate will cooperate with other professors in the fields of Bioeconomy, Farm Management, Agricultural Markets and Marketing, and Political and Social Sciences, strengthening the University of Hohenheim’s cross-faculty focus on bioeconomy.

The teaching load will comprise four contact hours per week. In the subject area outlined above, the tenure-track professor will hold courses in the Bachelor's and Master's programs of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The candidate should be able to teach both in German and in English.

The position offers attractive conditions for tenure-track appointees. This professorship is particularly suitable for highly qualified early career researchers. The requirements for an appointment are a completed university degree, pedagogical suitability and a doctorate of outstanding quality.

If the requirements for civil service are met, the appointment will be a temporary civil service position for six years. After six years, the applicant may be appointed to a W3-position if the requirements described in the University’s quality assurance guidelines are met. The appointment to a W3-position may be done without any additional call for applications and through a simplified appointment process. More information on quality assurance and evaluation is available at

With equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.

The University of Hohenheim seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching, and therefore strongly encourages female scientists to apply.
