KU Leuven has a full-time academic vacancy (in the independent academic staff) in the field of Operational Transport, Supply Chain and Production Systems. We are looking for internationally oriented candidates with an excellent research and teaching record in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), operational control and industrial management. The intended start date for this position is September 1, 2024. You are part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, campus Heverlee. This department is involved in numerous national and international research projects. It is also very successful in valorisation activities, including the establishment of spin-off companies (e.g. Nikon Metrology, Materialise, 3DSystems-LayerWise, Siemens Industry Software, Transport & Mobility Leuven).

Profile

You hold a PhD in the broader field of science and technology, industrial and systems engineering, or a comparable degree, but with a proven track record in ITS, operational control and industrial management. 
 
You have a strong research profile. The quality of your research is evidenced by publications in leading international journals and patents.
 
You have demonstrable qualities and experience in the field of academic education. 
 
You have organizational skills and a cooperative attitude. You also have leadership skills within a university context. 
 
A good command of English is required. 
 
The official administrative language at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch or not well at all, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable you to participate in meetings. 
 
For teaching Dutch you will have the opportunity to learn Dutch at the required level.

Depending on your file and qualifications, you will be appointed or appointed to one of the ranks of the senior academic staff: lecturer, senior lecturer, full professor or full professor. Junior researchers are in principle appointed as tenure track lecturers for a period of 5 years; afterwards, if the evaluation is positive, they are permanently appointed as senior lecturers. 
 
To facilitate scientific integration and research in the first phase, a starting grant of 110,000 euros is offered to new professors who have no substantial other funding and who are recruited for at least 50%.
