The University seeks to appoint a professor to the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine to commence as soon as possible.

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) has 250 members and offers a dynamic and international scientific environment encompassing five research programs and four high profile Research Centers. The ICMM aims to produce research with a high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components and molecular mechanisms in a biomedical context. The ICMM offers modern laboratory facilities and administrative support. Within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences core facilities and other experimental platforms are also available. The ICMM is also responsible for a number of undergraduate and graduate teaching programs at the University of Copenhagen and the scientists at ICMM are responsible for conducting high-quality research-based teaching. Job description

When considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of the DNA damage response and the role of meiotic recombination in governing the genetic changes that occur directly in the germline. About one fourth of human conceptions are affected by genome instability. The professor is expected to provide insight into how this genetic diversity arises in the human eggs and preimplantation embryos, and its implications for prenatal, pediatric and reproductive health.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination in major international scientific journals such as Science and Nature.
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

Required qualifications

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to:

  • Document a high degree of original academic production at a high international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline
  • Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • Document a well developed ability to orchestrate collaborations with clinicians and private enterprise
  • Provide research-based teaching
  • Be fluent in Danish and English

The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organizations.
