Your job

As teacher, you will hold an independent position in the Divison of Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Teaching anatomy and physiology is part of nearly all organ system and theme-based teaching blocks in the Bachelor's programme in Veterinary Medicine. In the Master's programme, the department is responsible for in-depth practicals. Additionally, teachers in Anatomy & Physiology contribute to education at University College Utrecht, the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, the Faculty of Geosciences, and in the new Bachelor's programme in Care, Health, and Society.

Your role will be diverse, encompassing a variety of teaching, development, and research responsibilities, including:

  • teaching lectures, tutorials, and practicals on anatomy and physiology in the Veterinary Medicine Bachelor's and Master's programmes;
  • participating in innovative educational projects on, for example, blended learning and virtual reality;
  • supervising simulations, self-study activities, and practical assignments;
  • preparing and marking exams;
  • evaluating parts of the curriculum and implementing improvements;
  • participating in small-scale workgroup teaching;
  • creating teaching materials and potentially contributing to educational research projects using innovative technology and approaches;
  • developing your research project aligned with the strategic plans of A&P and the faculty. We will make sure to organise the combination of education and research in the best possible way.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to use plastinated material for your teaching from a collection of over 3,000 items, but you will also have the opportunity to work with innovative teaching technologies such as virtual reality. You will also be involved in education for professionals, along with your colleagues from the Department of Clinical Sciences.

Your qualities

You are a recent veterinary or (bio)medical graduate, ideally with a completed or almost completed PhD. You demonstrate a clear affinity for anatomy and physiology. You can work well independently and you are good at thinking outside the box for new ideas. You are critical yet collaborative, capable of engaging with other disciplines both within and outside the faculty on applied anatomy and related research projects. Furthermore:

  • You have excellent communication skills.
  • You have a positive (working) attitude and good social skills.
  • You are energetic, enthusiastic and motivated for the job and you are a team player.
  • You are interested in both teaching and research, as a personal research project is part of this position.
  • You have a good command of English, both spoken and written, and you are willing to learn Dutch.

Our offer

We offer:

  • a varied job and an exciting working environment, in a team where cooperation and a good atmosphere are paramount.
  • the possibility to work on your BKO or SKO;
  • a position for one year, with the possibility of an extension;
  • a working week of 32 to 40 hours and a gross monthly salary between €3,345 and €5,278 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

In addition to the terms of employment laid down in the CAO NU, Utrecht University has a number of schemes and facilities of its own for employees.
