Professorship for Data Sciences in Biophotonics (Salary Scale W2)

We are looking for a distinguished personality (m/f/o) with a very good track record in research and application of modern data science methods for the processing of linear and non-linear molecular spectroscopic measurement data. This may include for example, chemometric methods, machine-learning techniques and artificial intelligence,. A further research focus should be on enabling photonic data application, for example in the materials sciences, biophotonics, biomedicine, or chemical biology.

The future research activities should be interdisciplinary in nature. It is expected that the candidate will develop innovative research projects and will actively participate in the research areas of Optics and Photonics, Innovative Materials and Microbiology and Infection Research along the profile lines "Light. Life. Liberty" of Friedrich Schiller University ( Furthermore, a link to the research area "Biophotonics" of the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology Jena e.V. should be created ( Additionally, the ability to cooperate in the local area is expected, as are proactive contributions to major collaborative research projects.

The future faculty member should teach in the field of data sciences in biophotonics. It is also expected that introductory courses on computational methods and information technology in chemistry programs can be offered.

Conditions for employment are a doctorate as well as a habilitation or an equivalent qualification, as well as documented pedagogic abilities, teaching and leadership experience, experience in the acquisition of third-party funding, and a very good publication record. The professorship will be appointed permanently as a civil servant if the necessary legal conditions are met.
