Faculty of Law

Professorship in Commercial and Business Law (focus: Corporate Law)

The University of Zurich is seeking applications for a

Professorship in Commercial and Business Law (focus: Corporate Law)
(50 %+, open rank)

to take effect from the beginning of the Spring Semester 2022 (1 February 2022), or by arrangement.

We are seeking a candidate with an outstanding legal background and excellent knowledge of corporate law in particular, and in a further area of business law.

This should be reflected in an outstanding dissertation, a habilitation thesis that is complete or at an advanced stage, and additional publications. If an excellent application is submitted, particularly from countries or regions (such as French-speaking Switzerland) that do not require a habilitation thesis, this requirement for habilitation may be waived if a comparable achievement can be demonstrated. Candidates must have an excellent level of English in order to publish in international journals and teach in English. Candidates with a non-Swiss background must be willing to familiarise themselves with Swiss law within a reasonable time period and, if necessary, attain the necessary level of German.

The successful candidate will have a focus on corporate law, and their academic work should also have an international and comparative law focus. Candidates should have experience of conducting research projects with an international perspective and a knowledge of foreign legal systems (e.g. European). In addition to corporate law, candidates should also cover one or more other areas of business law to be represented in teaching and research, such as capital markets law, regulatory law, digitalisation law, legal issues of corporate governance in global companies, or sustainable finance.

This position is advertised as open rank. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, the professorship will take the form of a full or associate professorship, or an assistant professorship with tenure track.

The professorship is a part-time position (50 %), and follow-on positions (assistant, secretariat) also correspond to a part-time professorship of 50 %. The Faculty of Law aims to increase this workload, but this is subject to funding.

The University of Zurich strives to increase the representation of women in research and teaching, and therefore specifically welcomes applications from these candidates.
