Professorship in Film Studies

The University of Zurich invites applications for a professorship in film studies. The position should be filled by 1 August 2021.

Candidates are expected to represent outstanding scholarship in the field of film studies (theory, analysis and history of film) in both research and teaching. We expect future job holders to have an excellent record in film theory and the history of film theory, in particular from post-war modernism to the present day. Furthermore, they are required to participate in disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperations in the national and international context as well as in the University's committees.

Candidates must hold a PhD degree and are expected to have completed their habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications and publications in the relevant field. In addition, a theoretical research profile that considers fictional and non-fictional forms of film is desirable. Candidates are requested to submit proof of previous research and teaching activities as well as the presentation of future research projects with their application. The language of instruction and administration is German; in research cooperations, English and sometimes French are spoken. Non-German speaking candidates are expected to have a working knowledge of German.
