Professorship in Midwifery (W2) (f/m/d)


The University of Cologne is one of the oldest and largest universities in Germany. The applicant is expected to play a major role in establishing and developing the new program of midwifery and thus to represent the subject in both teaching and research. He/She is to establish interdisciplinary teaching and research, participate in existing research networks and initiate his/her own projects. Close cooperation with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and with the Pediatrics/Neonatology Department in clinical work, research and teaching is expected.



Prerequisite is a university degree, preferably in midwifery or nursing or in another field closely related to those, the permission to use the title of midwife and several years of professional experience (preferably in a perinatal centre and involving the care of high-risk pregnant women). A doctoral title, a qualification as a lecturer (Habilitation) or equivalent scientific achievements are also required. Evidence of suitability for university pedagogy should be provided. The previous teaching performance should be documented (e.g. evaluation results). Extensive knowledge of the German language is also a prerequisite since teaching will be done exclusively in German language.

We are looking for an integrative personality, being willing and able to work with other disciplines beyond its own. Experience with the acquisition of third-party funds is desirable.
