Announcement of a professorship for "Fish Health" in accordance with § 98 of the UG
2002

The University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna (Vetmeduni Vienna) is internationally
renowned for its teaching and research in veterinary medicine, as well as being much in
demand as a collaboration partner. The modern campus houses teaching and research
facilities and the only veterinary teaching and research hospital in Austria. It hosts around
2300 students and 1400 staff members. The Vetmeduni Vienna is distinguished by its
striving for excellence in teaching, research and the service units, as well as through
continuous dialogue with society.

The Department for Farm Animals and Veterinary Public Health of the University of
Veterinary Medicine, Vienna is accepting applications for a full professor for "Fish Health"
in accordance with § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act.
The professorship is affiliated with the University Clinic for Poultry and Fish Medicine.

Field of activity

The central task of the incoming professor is the representation and further development of
the subject "fish health" in research, teaching and clinical services. In cooperation with the
institutes and clinics of the department, the professorship has access to state-of-the-art
facilities with excellent research and teaching facilities. Furthermore, the Department houses
the National Reference Laboratory for Fish Diseases.

In research, the newly appointed professor is expected to develop an independent research
programme in the field of fresh water fish and/or farmed fish (aquaculture) and to acquire
competitive third-party funding.

In teaching, the successful candidate shall cover all aspects of the entire field of fish health in
the veterinary curriculum. Additional foci will be the support and mentoring of young
undergraduate and postgraduate academics in the field of fish health, as well as the
postgraduate education in the respective area. Another important task will be the supervision
of bachelor, master, diploma or postgraduate (doctorate or PhD) theses at the Vetmeduni
Vienna.

The newly appointed professor is also expected to coordinate, maintain and optimize clinical
services in fish health.

The jobholder´s duties will further include participation in national and international boards
and cooperation with relevant authorities.

Required training, qualifications and skills

• Degree in veterinary medicine, animal science, biology or a related field (incl. a doctoral
degree / PhD or equivalent)
• Several years of internationally visible, independent research activities in the area of fish
health
• Acquisition of competitive third-party funding
• Proven academic teaching experience
• Very good command of English (B2 or higher)

• Strong leadership and social skills, ability to lead a team
• Economic and strategic thinking and acting
• Decision-making ability and assertiveness

Additionally desired qualifications and skills

• Experience in international cooperations
• Didactic training
• Good command of German (the acquisition of German language skills to at least level
B1 within 2-3 years is expected and will be supported if necessary)

Salary scheme:

Salary scheme of the Collective Bargain Agreement for University Staff, job group A1

Minimum salary:

The minimum salary according to the Collective Bargain Agreement for University Staff is
€ 74.503,80 gross/year (14 monthly payments). A higher salary may be agreed on during the
appointment negotiations. The professorship is a permanent position.

Presentations and interviews with the candidates are scheduled for June 10-11, 2021.
