Job Details:

・ Education for the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences, in particular teaching courses on biology in English (4 classes per year. 1 class means 90 minutes lectures for 15 weeks.)

・ Research and education for the International Courses in the Graduate School of Agriculture

・ Supervising graduate students in the Graduate School of Agriculture

Field of Specialization in Education:

Agriculture, for example, Animal Reproduction, Animal Biotechnology, Animal Molecular and Cell Biology of Reproduction and Conservation of Endangered Species

Work Location:

Kitashirakawa Oiwake-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto

Starting Date:

September 1st, 2019 or later

Employment Status:

From the starting date to March 31st 2020.

The employment contract is for one year, and is renewable annually for up to 5 years based on the evaluation results.

The successful candidate should have the following items:

1. Ph.D. degree in Agriculture or related areas;

2. An outstanding record in his/her research in the Research Field above

3. Ability to teach courses in English on agriculture at the undergraduate level in liberal arts education, and to teach some courses in English at the Graduate School of Agriculture;

4. Ability to supervise graduate students;

5. Following the Mission Statement of Kyoto University;

6. Very high-level (native-like) proficiency in English; and

7. Understanding of Japanese culture.

Note: It is desirable if the applicant have sufficient Japanese language ability to carry-out daily work.

Probation Period:

6 months


 Working conditions: Working hours: 38 hours 45 minutes per week under the flexible-hours system. Days off: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, Year-end and New Year holidays, Foundation Day, and summer vacation.

 Salary: Annual salary based on qualifications and experience is determined in accordance with the existing employment regulations of Kyoto University

 Allowance: No allowance for commuting expenses, housing expenses, bonuses, etc. is provided.

 Social insurance: Eligible for MEXT* mutual aid association membership, employment insurance, and workers’ compensation

*Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology

(iv) Educational career list; Name of classes, detail of classes, term, hours of classes, classes of the Graduate School / the Faculty and language used in the classes

(v) Statement of research and education plans (about three pages), which must include synopses of liberal art courses on Fundamentals of Agriculture.
