The Department of Food and Resource Economics, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a scientific assistant position from 1st of April 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. Our new employee is affiliated to the Section for Production, Markets and Policy, but undertake work all across the Department. The position is for 24 months.
The Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO) is a university department embracing economics, law, sociology and ethics as they bear upon basic, applied and business-oriented social science and humanities research. As Denmark’s only university department in economics specializing in food and natural resources, IFRO is naturally based in the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. This strengthens interaction between IFRO’s social science approach, on the one hand, and the life sciences and health sciences, on the other. Strong multidisciplinary research alliances are created in the process. Apart from research, the department provides research-based teaching, public sector services, the dissemination of knowledge and business partnerships. The department has approximately 130 employees.
The Department covers research, teaching and government consultancy based on a social scientific methods and theory within areas of agriculture, fisheries and forestry.

Job description
Your duties will include assistance in advisory work, research and teaching especially within areas of agricultural and environmental economics. This specific position will primarily involve policy analysis based on environmental and agricultural economics and could include CBA of various land use changes, costs of environmental regulations and agri-environmental policy, and support on projects ranging from technology changes to measuring consumer preferences for marketed and non-marketed goods.
Qualifications - selection criteria
Applicants must have an academic degree (MSc) within agricultural economics, environmental economics or a similar degree. Further, interest for one or more of following scientific areas are required:
- Theoretical and empirical economics
- Applied agricultural economics, environmental economics and bio-economics
- Inter-disciplinary teamwork experience
- Public sector consultancy and policy analysis
You are also required to be enterprising, flexible, structured, and to possess good interpersonal skills. The work is organized in projects and may be subject to tight deadlines. It is an advantage that you are fluent in Danish and have good language skills in English.
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 355,727 including annual supplement (+ 17.1 % pension). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
