About the Role

Applications are invited for the role of Research Assistant to work on an Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC) funded project exploring the role of the Covid-19 pandemic on Brazilian, Indian and Somali migrants living in London, Cardiff and Glasgow. Three positions are on offer with successful postholders working in ONE of these three communities.

The postholders will provide research support entailing review of key literatures; digital quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis; and co-writing of key outputs. They will also provide administrative support, organize workshops and take responsibility for external communications.

The postholders will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Professor Kavita Datta and Co-Investigators, Professor Laura Hammond, Dr Anna Lindley and Dr Elaine Chase.  

About You

Applicants should have a relevant postgraduate degree in the social sciences OR equivalent research experience with the Brazilian, Indian or Somali migrant communities in the UK. Relevant language skills pertaining to these communities is a key requirement.

They must have prior experience of using qualitative and quantitative research methods; experience in digital methods will be an advantage.

The applicant must be able to work independently and as a part of a team, and be competent in the use of relevant software.

About the School

The post holder(s) will be based in the School of Geography within the Economy, Development and Social Justice research theme. Comprising a vibrant mix of established and early career scholars, there is a strong interest in migration and diaspora studies within this theme. The School also hosts the interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Migration under the directorship of Professor Datta.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a part-time (21 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 18 months, with an expected start date of 4th January 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The starting salary will be Grade 4, £31,613 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
