Research Assistant in Neuroscience

Tufts University

United States

Overview

The Department of Neuroscience is a basic science department that focuses on cutting-edge research in the areas of synapse development and function, sensory systems, and complex behavior, cognitive neuroscience, and behavioral neurobiology. Dr. Rob Jackson’s lab utilizes molecular genetic approaches to study circadian behavior and sleep. Faculty members within the department are also extensively involved with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science Program in Neuroscience as well as teaching within the medical school.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experiments with accuracy. The overarching goal will be to use classical and molecular genetic approaches along with sophisticated behavioral assays to study roles for glia-neuron communication in the regulation of Drosophila circadian behavior and sleep.

  • The role will include collection of Drosophila adults for genetic crosses, data analysis, interpretation of results, statistical analysis, and production of figures/tables for publication.

  • Make decisions regarding the appropriate protocol or procedure necessary to achieve reproducible results and whether modification or repetition is necessary.

  • Record test results and analyze behavioral, molecular, and imaging data derived from experiments.

  • Help order reagents and keep lab organized.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform experiments utilizing genetics, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and confocal imaging.

  • Record results and maintain accurate records of experiments.

  • Perform data interpretation and assist with statistical analysis and summaries.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and order/keep inventory of supplies.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired through a degree in biology or neuroscience with 1-2 years related laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of neuroscience and genetics.

  • Knowledge of basic statistics.

  • Experience with immunohistochemistry.

  • Well organized and pays attention to details.

  • Able to communicate with others effectively.

Pay Range

  • Minimum: $49,500.00

  • Midpoint: $62,000.00

  • Maximum: $74,500.00
