Technical University Berlin Institute of Optic and Atomic Physics

Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II - Institute of Optic and Atomic Physics / Nonlinear Optics Group

Research Assistant (PostDoc) - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

under the reserve that funds are granted - part-time employment may be possible

Working field:

Collaboration in the funded research project CRTX.
CRTX is a joint project of the Berlin SME circular.fashion, the TU Berlin and the FU Berlin. The aim of the project is to create the basis for fibre-to-fibre recycling by means of AI and spectroscopy-based automated detection of raw materials and pollutants. By combining classical UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy a reliable optical detection method for the identification of the material composition and contamination of old textiles shall be developed.

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and doctorate in physics, polymer sciences, chemistry or a comparable discipline
  • At least three years of scientific or professional work in a full-time employment relationship after graduation
  • Long-term experience in polymer and molecular physics. In-depth knowledge of spectroscopic methods, especially Raman spectroscopy and/or ultrafast spectroscopy, and their application to polymers and dyes
  • Further prerequisites are knowledge of chemometric analysis strategies for automated data evaluation as well as knowledge of at least one common programming language (e.g. Python, C/C++) for lab control
  • Strong ability to work independently; high degree of creativity as well as problem oriented learning, ability to abstract modelling; experience with teamwork in interdisciplinary projects
  • Experience in acquiring funding; experience in publishing research results and presenting them at conferences
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills; good German language skills are required; willingness to expand German language skills
Desirable qualifications are:
Technical knowledge of textiles and their recycling, experience with machine learning methods, experience with methods of pollutant analysis, experience in computer-aided design and simulation of optics and mechanics (CAD, FEA, optical design). Further desirable qualifications are technical knowledge of textiles and their recycling, experience with machine learning methods, experience with methods of pollutant analysis, experience in computer-aided design and simulation of optics and mechanics (CAD, FEA, Optical Design).
