Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration (Ref.: 513746) (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)  

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Social, Behavioral Sciences (e.g., Sociology, Economy, Public Health, Psychology, or Social Work), Statistics, Computer Science or a related discipline, with one year post-qualification experience; or a Master’s degree in the aforementioned disciplines.  Those with experience in research and data analysis would have an advantage.  They should have experience in statistical programming languages such as Stata, Mplus, R, or SPSS; adequate knowledge of quantitative research methods and interpretation skills for the results; ability to work independently; a good command of written and spoken English.  Those with expertise in health/economic or aging research, especially in handling large and panel datasets, are preferred. 

The appointee will work on a project on employment issues and health in later life using secondary data sets in the Chinese context.  He/She will be responsible for data collection (e.g., collecting administrative data from web sources, government websites, etc.) and handling related research tasks included but not limited to: literature review, data management, and conducting preliminary data analyses.  Inquiries about the post/the project should be sent to Dr. Yu-Chih Chen at yuchih@hku.hk.
