The Department of Bioengineering (BIOE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position. The incumbent will carry out responsibilities related to research, teaching, and public service.  The duties associated with the position are to establish a vigorous and externally funded research program related to the development of point-of-care devices and global health technologies for the detection of biomarkers and pathogens with an emphasis on understanding sepsis, infectious diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases.  Research track faculty are expected to provide professional leadership within the Department of Bioengineering, other campus units, and the professional community.

This position requires a Ph.D. in bioengineering or a related field.  The successful candidate must have expertise in biosensors, point-of-care detection, and the development of micro and nano devices. Competitive applicants will show the promise of making a substantial impact on bioengineering-related research topics as demonstrated by publications, invited talks, extramural funding, professional service contributions, and other recognized scholarly activities.

This is a nine-month, full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track position. Responsibilities will include research, teaching, and service. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Preferred starting date is as soon as possible, but is negotiable.
