Research Assistants in Social Sciences

Position: 10%-30%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Law, Economics, and Business research group, headed by Professor Dr. Alexander Stremitzer at ETH Zurich, is seeking Research Assistants (Law / Humanities / Social Sciences).

We are looking for highly motivated students with a strong interest in anthropology, sociology, theology, legal history and theory, religion & law, and/or philosophy, to support a major interdisciplinary research project examining how and why different societies have historically chosen to regulate morally or socially contentious practices in different legal forms.


Job Description

  • Gather materials (scientific journals, textbooks, statutory texts, codes, court decisions, and doctrinal writings) on the regulation of socially controversial practices in several jurisdictions.

  • Review interdisciplinary literature from anthropology, sociology, political theory, philosophy, and religious studies relating to societal taboos, tolerance, decriminalization, legalization, and moral compromise.

  • Prepare annotated bibliographies, literature reviews, and research summaries.

  • Salaries are competitive and paid according to ETH standards.


Profile

  • Advanced students (preferably advanced Bachelor or Master level) in history, theology/religious studies, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, or related fields.

  • Strong academic records and capability to work with complex, interdisciplinary materials.

  • Comfortable researching politically or morally sensitive topics and proactive in locating relevant sources across multiple fields.
