Position Overview:
The Research Technician, Associate is an entry-level position focused on providing husbandry and care for a variety of laboratory animals, including rodents, rabbits, sheep, swine, horses, cows, and poultry, housed in conventional, barrier, and barn facilities. The role involves learning and performing health checks, maintaining cages and stalls, using specialized equipment (rack washer, bulk autoclave, steam gun, skid steer), handling animals exposed to biological, chemical, or radiation hazards, and preparing caging components. Occasional euthanasia of rodents may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform animal husbandry and health checks for all species on campus.
Change cages, clean stalls, and maintain animal housing.
Operate specialized equipment and handle large animals safely.
Prepare and maintain animal caging components.
Perform cleaning and maintenance duties as necessary.
Exhibit professional behavior when interacting with staff and external partners.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED.
Two years of animal care experience.
Basic computer and data-entry skills.
Basic knowledge of animal care and husbandry practices.
Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Physical ability to lift, move, and operate large equipment; work on feet all day; enter stalls with large animals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
