The Biosciences Division of ORNL has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to conduct basic research on plant genes and phenotypes foundational to developing sustainable biomass feedstocks. You will join a diverse, interdisciplinary team working to characterize plant traits and link them to genetic information under the Center for Bioenergy Innovation project.
You will work within the Plant Systems Biology Group, which focuses on understanding genetic controls of plant productivity, biomass quality, and resilience. The project will involve improving biomass characteristics in poplar via genetic engineering, genome editing, and genomic selection.
Responsibilities include:
Phenotypic characterization of transgenic and genome-edited poplar lines
Molecular and biochemical assays (protein-DNA and protein-protein interactions)
Physiological assays for photosynthesis-related traits
Designing experiments and performing omics analyses (transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics)
Field data collection and sample gathering
Data acquisition, analysis, and project documentation
Presenting research at meetings and conferences
Publishing results in peer-reviewed journals
Compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards
Upholding ORNL values: Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, Service
