Job summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position available within the Centre for Cold Matter, a part of the Quantum Optics and Laser Science Group (QOLS Group), to help produce independent and original research to produce ultracold molecules that can be used to measure the electron’s electric dipole moment.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be expected to plan and carry out research, write up results for publication and oral presentations, liaise with collaborators within and outside Imperial College, assist in the maintenance of lab facilities and the administration of the research team, and support research students. This project will involve a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary research.

Essential requirements

You must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Experimental Physics or a closely related discipline.

You must also be able to demonstrate all the following essential criteria:

  • A strong background in Experimental Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics.
  • Technical knowledge of CW laser systems and the control of laser light.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477– £38,566 per annum.

The position is available from 15 January 2021. It will have an end date of 30 September 2022, with the possibility of extension dependent on future funding.
