General Description
The Department of Ophthalmology at The Johns Hopkins University seeks exceptional applicants for a non-tenure track Research Associate faculty position in Nanomedicine working with Dr. Laura Ensign. Applicants should have expertise in nanomedicine and sustained release technologies. Opportunities for collaborations with clinical faculty and clinician-scientists will be available and strongly encouraged. The applicant will be encouraged to interact with, and draw upon the strengths of, many centers of excellence at Wilmer in which novel nanotechnology-based approaches can significantly enhance drug discovery, personalized medicine, and translational work towards novel therapies. A particular interest and experience with collaborative science and translational efforts is preferred. The position will be financially supported by existing grant funding for projects that the Research Associate will be involved in performing lab work (formulation and characterization, cell culture, animal work), project management, and mentoring of other lab personnel. The Research Associate will be involved in grant writing and will be expected to secure independent research in funding in areas related to the overall research program.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field with demonstrated expertise in formulation and characterization of nanomaterials for sustained drug and gene delivery. The recruited applicant should have experience in grant writing and lab and project management. Commitment to teaching excellence at the graduate levels and experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students is required. Successful candidates will have demonstrated valuing scientific discourse, an ability to establish and maintain fruitful collaborations and procure independent funding for their research program. Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
