Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Dr. Hansong Ma's lab ( at the Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge ( This position is supported by the European Research Council and is available from March 1st 2021 with funding for 2 years in the first instance. The successful applicant will contribute to an investigation of the mechanisms influencing inheritance of mitochondrial genomes. The lab is examining factors that bias transmission of one mitochondrial genome over another and probing the impact that this has on transmission of mitochondrial mutations and on evolution of the mitochondrial genome. The work involves Drosophila genetics, molecular techniques, and handling of Drosophila cells.

The candidates are expected to be independent and highly motivated. A PhD in molecular biology, genetics or other related fields is required. Ideal qualifications include demonstrated experience in insect cell culture handling, RNAi screen, qPCR, in situ hybridization, live cell imaging and next-gen sequencing library preparation (RNA- seq).

The position will benefit from the diverse and vibrant research environment of the Gurdon Institute and University of Cambridge. The successful applicant will have frequent interactions with other neighbouring labs of Drosophila and developmental biology, and have a chance to develop collaborative research projects.
