Research Associate in Organic / Hybrid Spintronics

University of Cambridge

United Kingdom

The Optoelectronics Group of the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge, invites applications for a Research Associate to work on the characterisation of the spin and charge transport physics of organic and hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors. The post is part of a Synergy Grant funded by the European Research Council, which involves a collaboration between the University of Cambridge, the Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory, Imperial College, the University of Mainz and the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. The project is studying the physics of charge and spin transport in highly doped conjugated polymers. The post is based in the group of Prof Henning Sirringhaus at the Cavendish Laboratory and will be focused on experimental investigations of materials and device physics.

The role holder will help to lead a sub-group of graduate students working on the grant on various aspects of the spin physics of these materials. The successful candidate will develop and execute their own independent research projects within this remit, under the guidance of the Prof Sirringhaus, as well as provide day-to-day student supervision. The role holder will also play an active role in the collaboration with our national and international project partners in London, Hitachi Cambridge, Mainz and Prague.

Candidates should hold (or be about to complete) a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or related field. The successful candidate will have research experience in the materials and transport physics of doped conjugated / conducting polymers.

Appointment as a Research Associate is dependent on having a PhD. The Research Associate salary falls within the range £32,816 to £40,322.

The position is available from 24 February 2020.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 July 2021 in the first instance.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
