Research Associate in Pathology

University of Cambridge Department of Pathology

United Kingdom

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position in the group of Dr Colin Crump at the Department of Pathology, to join an exciting new collaborative project with the Francis Crick Institute into host factors necessary for the replication of BK polyomavirus. This virus persistently infects the majority of the human population and can cause serious disease in kidney transplant recipients. The post will be in the Division of Virology, which is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, and will also involve collaborative research with Dr Rupert Beale's laboratory at the Francis Crick Institute in London.

Candidates should have a PhD, or expect to obtain one shortly, and have a track record of success in virology and/or cell biology research. Relevant experience in cell culture, molecular biology techniques and fluorescence microscopy imaging is essential. Prior experience of working under biosafety level 2 containment, genome-wide genetic screens and high-content microscopy would be beneficial.

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills are required. The duties/responsibilities of this post include developing and driving research objectives, writing up work for publication, assisting in the supervision of student research projects, and delivering research presentations.

Where the successful applicant does not yet have a PhD, they will normally be under-appointed as a Research Assistant in a Research Associate post (on the understanding that they will be appointed as a Research Associate upon successful completion of their PhD). The higher Research Associate salary should be backdated to the submission date of their thesis.

Start date: The post is available immediately

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for up to 3 years.
