Position Summary

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position at Michigan State University to work with Prof. Steve Zepf and his research group on X-ray sources in globular clusters. The group has active ongoing programs to study these sources at many different wavelengths, with the goals of understanding questions about the presence of black holes in globular clusters and the accretion processes at rates near or above the Eddington limit.

The successful candidate will have experience analyzing data and publishing results from different observatories, including several of optical, ultraviolet, X-ray, and gamma-ray telescopes. The research group is highly collaborative and working with students on research projects is expected as part of this position. The research group also utilizes the SOAR 4-m telescope in Chile, to which Michigan St. has guaranteed access.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in astronomy, physics, or a related subject by the appointment start. The initial appointment will be for up to one year and will be renewable for additional years upon mutual agreement. The nominal starting date is late summer/early fall.
