Research Associate in Population Health

The overall purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the Population Evidence and Data Science theme of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) in the East of England ( The post holder will contribute by pro-actively engaging with partner organisations able to contribute to this goal to identify opportunities for collaborative working, and in developing research proposals with a focus on the use of data to improve health. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the conduct, analysis and implementation of projects within the theme and be involved in the preparation of peer-review publications.

The post-holder will have a PhD in a relevant subject or have equivalent qualifications and/or experience combined with thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles and methods of public health research; practical experience using population health-related data and information systems, and ability to resolve highly complex information queries and problems; experience working and/or liaising with academics, local government and policy makers in the NHS or other complex environment regionally and nationally; excellent IT and organisational skills, ability to work independently, and demonstrable problem solving skills and initiative. The post holder will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to draft technical documents and write for varied external audiences. Administrative or project management experience, preferably in a research-related role and in a university environment, and in the use of statistical and epidemiological methods for interpreting and understanding data is desirable.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
