The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position within the Academic Support Staff.
Appointment Duration: Initially 1 year; continuation and renewal up to 3 years contingent on performance and funding.
Field of Expertise: PET imaging with focus on Monte Carlo methods, image evaluation techniques, and image generation algorithms.
Required Degree: Ph.D. in Bioengineering or a related field.
Candidates should have:
Prior experience working collaboratively with scientists, including imaging physicists and research clinicians.
Experience with PET imaging, Monte Carlo modeling, and quantitative image generation techniques.
Prior participation in grant proposal writing is preferred.
Conduct research in the design and evaluation of new PET systems for clinical and organ-specific imaging.
Collaborate with PET physics researchers to develop Monte Carlo models using bench-top measurements and optimize system design using task-specific imaging metrics defined by clinical needs.
Investigate new image generation techniques applied to simulated and measured data from existing scanners.
Assist and oversee students and postdoctoral researchers in the group.
Develop independent research projects with potential funding from sponsored programs.
Receive mentorship in grant writing and proposal development.
Present and publish research results, and contribute to grant applications for continued funding.
To provide professional training that develops candidates into lead independent researchers in PET imaging while advancing collaborative research initiatives.
